It's not a massacre nor Spanish corrida de torros, it's an honorable bull fight. In Fujairah. In United Arab Emirates.
The Brehman bulls are set against each other instead man against the bull like in Spain for instance. Moreover, unlike the Asian bull to bull tournaments, spectators place no bets as Islamic tradition and Emirati law forbid it.
The rules are easy to follow: the bull which forces the opponent to run away - wins. If neither backs away - it's a draw. As simple as that! If the wrestle gets too intense, cattle breeders together with trainers quickly separate animals from each other so none will get hurt.
Every other Friday (al-jumuʿah) afternoon families meet at Fujairah arena, however, fights are suspended for summer and holy month of Ramadan. Everyone is welcome to sit
wherever they are comfortable, on chairs or car roof tops. There are cotton candy, salted mangos, coated nuts and fizzy drinks. The alarm pierces the air to heighten the excitement as around 80 fights will take place one by one.
